MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1275CC Crossflow Radiator mounting points

Hi

I have a query about the distance between the two mounting holes on the top of the radiator (1275cc Crossflow Rad).

Does anyone happen to know or have one out of the car currently / spare to measure up for me please?

Thanks

Nick
N Parr

if you mean those that go through the top of the cowl to the top of the rad then as best I can manage measuring across the fitted screw heads - 11 and a half inches (292mm) centre to centre
Nigel Atkins

Got a new old one in a box in the workshop, will measure in a minute.
Dave Squire (1500)

The two holes with caged nuts on the top side of a cross flow radiator are eleven and a half inches centre to centre. (11.5" centre to centre) Measured with the holes clear on a brand new unused rad.
Dave Squire (1500)

but Dave how many millimeters is that ?
Nigel Atkins

Millimeters only relevant if its a foreign import. This is a British car, built to proper Imperial measurements!

Nick might be under the age of 45 so not so familiar with last century's system of measurement

plus it was a reference to an earlier post :)
Nigel Atkins

Yes of course it was referencing an earlier post. But that is no excuse for degrading the standards that the car was designed to.
Guy W

Nigel stop being an ar5e....
;-)
David Smith

Probably applies to me too then. Sorry!
Guy W

Can deal with either inches or cm! Thanks Dave!
N Parr

Another question - anyone know how high the 1275cc cross flow radiator is?

Cheers!
N Parr

11 and 1/8"
David Smith

There was a serious side to my comment. These car bodies were built to sizes in multiples of inches, and 1/8"; Hole sizes in multiples of 1/16". Of course these can be converted into any other linear measure that you like, but invariably the most accurate measure will match the units it was designed in.
Guy W

I'm not being an ar*e Guy would know that it's a joke

and on a serious note the mm is to confirm the imperial measurement especially with my record of typos and many think of and are more natural to the metric system so like a second language convert in their heads anyway

do you know when someone one says they're 1.73 metres how tall they are without converting it to feet and inches, I don't

Nick,
29.2cm
Nigel Atkins

spot-on Guy; any use of a non-Imperial measuring system on these cars can only lead to imprecision.
David Smith

Hear hear David.
Paul Walbran

if you notice I gave the measurement as
>>11 and a half inches (292mm)<<

note the brackets, as put they are there as conformation

also I've seen many posts with metric measurements, also are you going to complain about the description of the much favoured single carbs and engine fixings

I see your point David but you're the one being an ar*e with me, but I owe you a bit of leeway from previous wind ups so carry on as 'Disgruntled of Bershire'
