MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1275 weight
I'm about to lift just the engine out - A series 1275 with an electric hoist - does anyone know what they weigh (without ancillaries)? Thanks Oh btw I've checked the handbook and it only shows the car weight as far as I can see. |

About 100kg IIRC |

Less than the fat lady. Under 300lb. 1275 engine for a transverse car is 254lb, complete engine/gbx assembly is 339lb. A B series with clutch is 358lb in the MGB WSM. FRM |

Thanks chaps, the hoist I'm using has two pulleys - one rated at 125kgs the other at 250kgs; so the smaller one is good for about 275lbs which should be enough. Thanks. |

125 kilo limit sounds too close. Even if the motor is about 250 lbs, there will be considerably more weight on the lift as you separate the motor from the trans while lifting, also when it hangs up on the motor mount bolts. Remember, ant friction is like added weight. There will be lots as the motor and tranny separate. I'd go for the larger pulley myself, just to be sure. Phil |

Cheers Phil, had another look at the two pulleys and hooks and the smaller one does look a little frail to lift 250 or so lbs so it'll be the bigger version! Jeremy |
