MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 Crank Pulley Diameter
Hi Folks, hope you are all well. Does anyone have a 1500 engine out of the car or in bits somewhere? Could you measure the diameter of the crank pulley for me? I think it is about 6.5", but it's tricky to measure in the car, with the rad in the way and measuring around the pulley nut. Thanks. Malc. |

what a daft question... of course I do ;O) It's in the container, I pop out tomorrow and measure it for you.. Best of... MGmike |

Thanks :-) Fuelling is mostly sorted so looking at sorting a crank trigger so I can run mapped igntion too. |

Malc, sorry it took me a little longer than expected to get to this! Story of my life at the mo! I make it 6" but as you say, it's difficult to measure across the nut and it might well be 5 7/8"! Deffo not as big a 6.5" Best of... MGmike |

Wrap a tape around the outside diameter and divide the distance by pi. |

I crawled under my car and measured it with engine it situ. From edge of crank pulley nut to the edge of the pulley is exactly two inches. Crank pulley nut across flats is 1 13/16 So I make it 5 13/16 I’m fairly confident with the ruler measurement (ie measurement is perpendicular to nut flat) but measuring a pulley on its own would be better of course. ![]() |

Thanks Chris. That corrobobates my other measurement. I didn't think to try from underneath. A 6.5" trigger wheel should do the job nicely. |
