fitting on the 1500 temp gauge
thanks in anticipation

Hmmm... im not so sure there is a capillary tube on a 1500 temp gauge

I want to say the 1500 temp gauge is electrical, not mechanical.

early ones had a capillary dual gauge later had oil light and water temp gauge

hi
mine is a 76 with the dual gauge and oil light! All looks very original
i am looking to fit a new temp gauge and need to know the size for the temp sender unit

With Prop here. Could be wrong (corrections welcomed) but what I've learned from my car is that earlier cars with an oil pressure gauge (Dual type with temp) used a capillary for the O/P, but the engine temp is sensed electrically.

My car ('78) originally had no O/P gauge, only an idiot light. It has an aftermarket one now, which uses an electric pressure sensor, so no capillary.

But that's not what you asked Tony. AFAIK your temp gauge is electric. Rimmer Bros have the capillary if you need it - it's the same one used for the GT6/Spitfire/Dolomite/2.5PI and others. I'd give them a call and ask. They all use the Smith's instruments, so should all be correct connector fitting. It might even be included with the new gauge for all I know.

Good luck.

Yup, earlier cars, including 76 had a capillary type temperature gauge. The change to electrical was in '78 if I recall correctly.

I can't remember the thread size but I think it is universal. Or, to be more specific, I bought a universal aftermarket temperature gauge made by "TIM" and that had only one adapter and that fitted my 1500 no problem.

Hope this helps,
Malcolm

Don't know if it helps Tony, but it sure helps me Malcolm. Thank you for the correction.

mines a 77 and oil is capillery and water has a tube with a bulb on the end with some sort of fluid in it it goes in the themostat housing
