MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1971 Midget - dash issue
Hi folks, Hopefully a quick one - was driving my car when a not particularly pleasant squeak appeared. Turns out that the dash was loose on the RHS because a screw that holds it steady at the bottom had dropped out (I could feel a similar screw on the LHS). Question is - how easy is it to get at, and would I need anything other than a normal screwdriver? The space isn't exactly great...does anyone know what size it is? Thanks! J. |

That depends which screw it is. The dashboard is secured at each side by an L-shaped bracket. There is a self-tapping screw holding the bracket to the dash (with a spire nut) and a 1/4" UNF hex-headed screw holding the bracket to the bodywork. |

Thanks Dave, I think it's the former from what I could feel on the LHS. Essentially the screw that seems to be missing is one that would have to be screwed in with the screwdriver pointing toward the driver seat if that makes sense. Size aside, it feels like it's going to be fiddly... |

Thats odd...on mine i got nuts and the studs are inbeded into the dash |

You've got the padded dash - different animal. |

Just to complete this thread, want to say thanks to Dave. After poking about the dash, the spire nut was still there but the screw had broken. Got it out eventually. Incidentally, the spire nuts are showing as NCA from Moss, but these are a perfect match for the one that was in my car: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200817841845 |
