MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Aftermarket calipers
I just received a pair of calipers from an online parts supplier. I wondered when I ordered them why only the left side attracted a core charge. Turns out while the left is a rebuilt original, the other is a garishly painted reproduction that is quite possibly the crudest part I have ever bought.. It looks porous! So I plan to return it and get another left side, bleed it nipple side up, and fit it on the right. Has anyone used such a dodgy looking caliper? I would be forever waiting for it to fail! ![]() |

Hi Jim You might be surprised to find that it's OK. It looks plated to me not painted not that this will affect the porosity. IMHO it looks the same as the "new" ones I fitted 2 years ago which are still working as good as they were designed to work i.e not well enough for modern conditions. I'm fitting alloy replacements asap Cheers Rod |

I dont see a problem... stick it on and call it a day I think it would be very tough and trying to bleed an upside down caliper Prop |

Had those on the race car - worked fine for me. |

fitted 2 that looked like that to the P6, all good so far a year and a bit down the line. |

Wow... Looks like I was a bit harsh in my judgement! Nonetheless, I will take them to the local branch and see if they can painlessly swap it out, if only for aesthetics. If not, I will keep it, and based upon unanimous approval, won't worry about it failing! Cost was very reasonable. Less than $50 for the reproduction unit and not much more for the rebuilt one. |
