MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Alexander head
Hi All, Any body out there building a special car that needs a special head. I have a Aluminium Alexander 7 port head that is now needing a good home. It all looks to be there apart from some rocker post studs. It comes with a steel tubular inlet manifold with 4 little runners. I have seen them with an alloy cast inlet. |

Prop,
"Of all the tuning products manufactured by Alexander Engineering during the 50's and 60's, their 7 port Xflow Alloy cylinder head is probably one of the most sought after and rare. This was originally designed for use on the range of "Conventional" A series powered cars like the Morris Minor or Austin A35, but they were also used on Minis too." http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.uk/alexander_7_port.htm not sure I would risk such an important artefact on an engine when cheap after market items are available at £1400!!! best of.... You may want to check out the market for those who have rare and now expensive 948cc A Series powered sports cars such as the 950 Turner or Lotus Seven Series I. Plus Sebring Sprite replicas. See relevant online forums: http://www.turnersportscars.co.uk (there's a wanted ad under 'Sales and Wants' for an Alexander head). Lotus Seven: http://www.lotus7register.co.uk/ser1page.htm & http://www.mikebrotherwood.com Sebring Sprite website, e-mail via: http://www.sebringsprite.com/feedback.html to get your head listed for sale on the news section. Mike - fascinating reading on the unsuitability of the head for transverse installation in a Mini and Turner's withdrawal of it from sale. Also answer my question if this item a small bore head. Cheers Mike PS I had not realised Alexander made a couple of coupes: http://www.sebringsprite.com/alexandergt.html |

I meant Alexander"s withdrawal of it from sale above.
There are some fascinating Alexander Engineering stories, their works used to be on a mile long straight out of a village which may have been useful for testing (remember hearing about this from a local in the early 1980s when visiting Haddenham. Alexander Engineering were still going then but mostly making manual choke conversion kits for cars that had automatic chokes, and bonnet release cable kits available in Halfords and independent motor factors). Didn't Alexander's produce a one-off twin engined mini (a 'Twini')?Not sure how that fitted into the timing of the Cooper works prototype Twini (Mini Cooper 1275S) or the factory experimental prototype Twini Moke Cheers Mike |
