MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Alloy wheel measurements

I have been trying to check the width of my "minilite" repro wheels. Can't see a stamp so resorted to measuring.
Can anyone tell me whether the width is measured between the inside faces of the rim or outside. I would guess it's the inside measurement in which case I will have to guess the thickness of the alloy as tyres are fitted so I can't get in to measure.
With steel the material thickness is fairly insignificant, but alloy is a different matter.

yep it's on the inside
if you measure the outside not including the little turned out lip and sutract 1/2'' you will be very very close ie if you get 6 1/2'' outside it will almost certainly be a 6'' rim

Wouldn't you take off 1/2" for each flange, inner and outer?
Guy Weller

I would have guessed at about 1/4" of material in the wheel wall. I have measured from the "flat" part if the rim ie ignoring the lip as William suggests. So looks like 6" then.
Graeme W

Why not just measure the width of the tyres (at the rim) as that will surely be the same as the inside of the rim.

Most tire shops can measure and for free
