MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Are these the wrong moulding clips?
I bought some new clips for the chrome mouldings on the side of the car but I don't think they're the right ones. I riveted them onto a door but couldn't get the trim on. So I checked with one of the orignal panels off the car and the clips on that are different and quite a bit smaller. So are these the wrong clips? Photo as I know you all like pics. ![]() |

From memory they look similar to mine. If they are the right size you should be able to hook the strip over the top then just push the bottom in. Trev |

My guess is that the Chinese tooling isn't quite right. They may need some tweaking. I haven't fitted any waist-rail trims, but the later sill trims do need a smart tap to get them on. They also need smaller rivets than standard, although I just file a couple of flats on the heads rather than buying specials. |

I've previously put the moulds on and yes a firm press and they snap on but these won't as they're too big. The clips are too big to even slide in the mould. Are those ears meant to be on the top of the new ones? None of the orginals have them and look like they never did. If I remove them then they may work. |

Just looked at mine. They have the ears but they don't look as though they are bent up as high as yours, so I would try bending them down a bit or removing the top of them until they fit. Trev |

I would guess that the ears should be on top. It looks as if they're just broken off of the old clip in the pic. -:G:- |

Hi, they do look like the ones that I used for waist mouldings. When I did mine I didn't put much faith in the clips so I alternated the ears top to bottom on each clip so they should be well and truely on. Do you also have the larger clips that screw on (1 per trim piece if memory serves correct)? Thanks Mark |

Greg, I replaced the chrome strips on my car using the following items from Moss Motors U.S.A.: mounting clip #326-610 and rivet #326-295. I am not always thrilled with the quality of products Moss sells, but these items worked perfectly, and made the job simple. BTW: the "ears" are placed, up, so the moulding hooks on and then the bottom of the moulding just snaps into place. Good luck, Keith |

These are some spare clips I have left over from my last rebuild. Overall height approx .315" ![]() |

Dave I also got 0.315" so mine are exactly the same. I tried to bend the ears down a bit but they snap off. What I did find is that with one ear missing it allows for a very slight rotation and then with quite bit of force I can snap them on. Definitely not loose. I'm surprised I'm finding them hard to get on if they're the clicks evryone else is using. Prehaps just me, but doesn't matter as I think I've got it sorted now. |
