MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Big discs on a Midget

Is my memory playing up ? Has there been a thread somewhere on fitting Big discs from a Allegro or Maestro to a Midget ?

I dont recall that one.

The go to big brake is a mgb caliper with a triumph spitfire disc and a spacer between the hub and the disc

Although a princes (america??) caliper (D7 ???) is a good alternative...I want to say its lightwieght and a 4 pot

You will have to look up those (???)...danial stapleton my know...more precisely whats doable

there was, ages ago, Debs fitted them to her race car with princess calipers. I have a set of Allegro discs and with a pcd re-drill they'd go on.

Princess calipers are 4 pot but heavier than the moon, and getting pretty rare now. By the time you've ar*ed about making pcd adaptors and accurately drilling & stress relieving discs that are getting hard to source second hand, you might have well followed the link above, or gone peter may 900.

Searching the archives for "big brake" will keep you happy for ages..

There is a mid model Triumph GT6 bolt that has a M10 metric shank and UNF threads that allows anything modern to fit - Triumph had to invent it for a period where they fitted new callipers on old kingpins - I got my frankenbolts from Canley Classics - that may allow MGF callipers, not sure what the stud pattern on a MGF is, but as they are somewhat newer it might be worth a look.

The JLH link includes a new hub with taper roller bearings - is this an end to the front wheel bearing sagas but at a cost?

Jeremy, this kit certainly eleviates the problems with the original style bearings, and offer greater braking efficiency for those who require it.
You will notice that we manufacture an alloy and steel version of the original hub, but using taper roller bearings, this is sold without the requirement to upgrade to larger disc kits.
We are currently manufacturing a fully adjustable double wishbone coil over kit for the Midget, which incorporates our own ball jointed upright design, this can be used with the std Midget discs or indeed our upgrades.
We will follow this kit with an alloy upright specifically for the std Midget trunnion style set up. Both uprights feature a bolt in stub axle which will be manufactured to accept either our hubs, the 2mm radius or 1mm radius for the std bearings.

On the MGB caliper you can even go a bigger pad then standard

Look for the MGB V8 brake pad... you have to file down to corners, no big deal...but the pad is almost twice the size of the midget pad...

I cant wait to stick that on the drilled and sloted spitefire disc...oh and the padbis ceramic

Ohhh... and the masters are tilton 2 for the brakes and 1 for the clutch with tilton peddle assembly


Ohh and ah, im going to be using full stainless steel breaded lines on AN fittings

Oh I almost forgot...next.year im using a mazda rx 7 rear axle assembly, with disk brakes and LSD on a panhard rod and ladder bars and carrerrea adjustable tube shocks

I'm sure I read somewhere that Rover SD1 V8 front pads fit an MGB caliper and are slightly larger.
