MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Bonnet Adjust query

Hi all,
bonnet on my Mk III is a little higher on the drivers side than on the passengers side .
I checked the bolts on the bonnet arm lifter & they are all nipped up nice & tight.
To adjust the bonnet fit, do I take off the bonnet & then muller the O/S bonnet lifter down a bit or is there a right way to do this?
Cheers all

Colin, each hinge is fastened to the bonnet with 4 bolts. If you add washers between the hinge plate and the bonnet you can adjust the height. But don't just put washers under all 4 bolts. That won't work. It's about altering the angle of attack of the hinge. So washers under the rear 2 bolts will raise the bonnet, whilst under the front 2 will lower it.

Hi Guy,
Thanks very much.

Alternatively, give the hinge a tweak to change its angle. To raise the bonnet, block between the bottom of the vee of the hinge and the bulkhead so that it is stopping downwards movement of the hinge. Then pull the front of the bonnet in the direction of closed a little - not too much or it will go further than you want. Just enough so that you feel it give a little.
To lower the bonnet, block the hinge inside the Vee and up to the scuttle and lift the bonnet a little.

I have had exactly the same issue as Colin for sometime, and it has annoyed me no end for months. I tried a variety of methods with limited success until I read this post. 2 washers under each front bolt later... et voila!

I prostrate myself at the feet of your wisdom! We are simply not worthy!

These nuggets are priceless...Don't leave the country.....

Many thanks

Mark, Its not me. In fact it isn't any individual. Its the value of the BBS as an information exchange. I picked up that advice from someone else here several years ago and found that it worked. And if you think about the geometry of the hinge it does suddenly become obvious!

Guy

Well any BBS is only as good as its contributors...have a pint on me anyways...
