MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Bonnet buffers
Can anyone clarify how many of the rectangular bonnet buffers there should be on a 1275 car (MK 1V Sprite). No cat content, I don't mean buffers for polishing. I am referring to the ones that go in the wing channels either side of the bonnet. Not the rubber cone things at the front slam panel. My car has 1 either side, but then I fitted these years ago and may have got it wrong then. The base plates have rusted and the rubbers come loose. MGOC and Sussex Classic Cars show just 1 each side, but Moss list 4 needed per car? So, who is right? |

possibly both correct; two for the bonnet and IIRC 2 on the bootlid but only on the earlier cars... |

My bootlid has 4, but they are different shapes to the bonnet ones. |

Guy: my '66 has one each side only. The car has original wings [OK one was written off in 1976 but was replaced with a contemporaneous second hand one] |

Thanks David, I have just ordered 2. There are only drillings in the gutter for one each side and it has worked well enough like that for the time since I fitted them last. Cheers! |
Guy |
Only one each side.

Guy, definitely only one per side; the Heritage shell also has holes drilled for one per side -just visible on the attached. (Photo taken just after engine started for the first time - hence the beers...) Jeremy ![]() |

Thanks all. I was pretty sure, until Moss said 4! 2 will do the job fine! |

Yup, '66 Sprite, two is standard on the wings. However, I have thought of adding two more nearer the front of the wings, as my bonnet vibrates a little too much for my taste, at tickover, even though the two main front buffers on the bonnet, are adjusted properly and in good condition. |
