MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Carb Question

Hi All,
1275 Mk III.
Noticed my rear carb was a bit sootier on the plugs than on the front so took the rear off to give it a very thorough & careful clean.
When I reassembled it, I noticed that the piston travels freely up & down in the carb top when seperated, and the needle travels freely up & down when just loose in the carb body. When I reassemble it, the piston sticks when I tighten the rear screw of teh carb. It moves under effort fromn the lifting pin I guesss its been like this for some time?
As everything moves freely & easily when seperate but sticks when assembled, is it a jet cenreing thing I need to do??- I can't afford to get the carbs reconditioned at present - thats alonger term plan?
Any advice gratefully received
Cheers colin

Sometimes you can get away with slackening the 3 dashpot screws and jiggling it's position till the piston falls to the bridge, then retighten and check it's still OK. If that doesn't work center the jet.

so did you sort your g/box oil then?

some of the John Twist videos show carb reassembly

also check for muck and that the carb needle is secure and not bent anywhere

have a look at those John Twist videos to prepare yourself as after it'll all make more sensefunny my wife always likes to go shopping without me, which suits me fine

don't start another job until you've finished the first as even simple jobs usually take a lot longer than expected and then you're rushing on the second job which rarely works out well

plus if you plan to do one job and successfully complete two you feel good about it and yourself
