MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Centre Console Radio Hole

Guys,

Just getting some stuff ready for my build and have a question about the size of the radio hole in the centre console, i measured it at 1800mm x 55mm but when looking at single din size stereo they are all 1800mm x 50mm, so the hole looks too big or is it the case when the out cage is fitted its right ?

thanks
Andy

Actually most rsdios are to small depth wise to fit the hole

so if you found a radio thats to small... your a lucky man buy it and build it up to fit

I hope you mean 180mm not 1800. 180 x 50 is standard single din aperture size

The radio hole on my console is 180mm x 55mm

(you have too many zero's at 1800)

I just need to get around to fitting it!

Sorry yes 180mm !!

So is the extra 5mm in depth of the hole a problem ? or can you just centralise the radio cage and push the tangs back to hold it normally ?

Thanks
Andy

Sorry i mewnt most radios are to large depth wise to fit the hole and stick out the front... esp CD player radios

You can get a shallower MP3/bluetooth/USB (no CD) radio which fits perfectly in the confined space, usually cheaper too.
I have one in the Gidge but at any speed over 50 K's I cant hear it.
cheers

PS I posted a pic of the console I built for it some time back, cant recall the thread title, if your interested I'll repost it

I got a Retro Sound radio (moss selss them too) and the unique thing is that the radiobody(black part on photo) and front/display(chrome part on photo) are two separate items only connected by a wire.
This means you can practicaly place the radiobody where ever you want in the car and have the display in your dash/console.
My radiobody is placed verticaly in the centreconsoll.

Hi Andy,

Most of the big names in caraudio do shallow head units, cassetes and cd's are old hat now, so the units don't need the transport mechaniasms inside now.

Most of them are 8/9 cms deep, and mp3, bluetooth etc. Much lighter as well.

What you need is a car radio that transmits on bluetooth so you can drive around with bluetooth earphones on!!!

You can get bluetooth speakers also.
Just install them in the car and play the music off your phone....
