MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Clarke Mig welding tips. What thread size?

I've got a clarke 120E Mk2. I need to buy some more tips.

Does anyone know what thread size they are?

I think they are the same size as for the Clarke 100E Mk2 and the Pro-90.

Does 18mm long and M5 thread sound right?

Lawrence,
Sounds right. I just checked my pack of spares which I bought from Clarke. The packaging says "for all Clarke Hobby range MIG welders". Mine is a 100E model. The tips are standard M5 thread and measure 18mm overall length. I have in the past also bought the ones that Halfords supply for their SIP range welders and they are identical. You just need to check the size, for 0.6 or 0.8mm wire

A Clarke 150 I use from time to time has M5 threaded tips. Handy to have the tap as well as on a couple of occasions I've had to clean the threads as they seem to get damaged sometimes if the wire burns back to the tip excessively, maybe slight arcing at the thread. I've also rebuilt the end of the swan neck with an M8 brass bolt when the owner destroyed the end the tip goes into beyond repair. IIRC there are 2 length of shroud for these various MIG but not sure why or when the change.

Thanks David/Guy,

I need 06mm. So now I know it's 5mm/18mm, I'll order some from Ebay.

Cheers chaps.

I've found in the past that with my welder at least, a Eland 160, that 0.6mm wire ran better with less problems in 0.8mm tips. I have spoken to others that have found the same with their welders. Mainly these days I use 0.8mm wire but not sure whether the tip currently is 0.8mm or 1.0mm as I was recently running some 1mm stainless wire and not sure if I changed the tip back but have run 0.8mm since without problems, will have to check.

Ah too late David, I've just ordered .6mm

But it's easy enough to open them up to .8mm. I did that for some .8mm flux cored gasless wire, and intend to do it with the .8mm stainless wire you sent me a while back.

I should have/could have ordered both .6mm and .8mm really. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

Which versions best? Beverly Knight or Celine Dion?

Both different, both good. But lean with blues.

Anybody tried Vaseline as nozzle dip?

I read it on a website somewhere, so I tried it today.

Seems to work, but as I haven't got the pucker (more expensive) stuff to compare it to, I don't know if it's good or indifferent. All I can say it, I haven't got much if any spatter on my tip.
