MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Darn door lock clips

Anyone know how on earth you fit these?
Already got sore fingers trying to fit it with lock in situ (door has window raised).

Hi Tim. I found that the best way was to fit the clip to the lock off the door and then push the complete assembly through from the front. The clip should spring into place as it pushes through to the inside. That said they're still less than useless and you should consider investing in the security ones which have a threaded barrel and a securing nut on the back. Not cheap but saves a lot of cursing! MGOC do a door lock fitting kit. I'm sure the other suppliers do too.

I bought one about 20 years ago. Now, if I could just remember where I put it...

Item number 74

It dispenses with the clip and clamps the lock firmly to the door.

I've bought a complete set of locks, 2 doors plus bootlid. The only problem I've encountered so far (I've yet to actually fit the door locks) is that the screw threaded barrel is slightly larger diameter than the hole in the door. Fettling will be required unfortunately. It had some of those clamps in situ when I took over ownership, worse than useless. I'll defy anyone to get the doors open without the key when the new screwed-in locks are fitted ....!!!!

What was the problem with the clamp kit?

They've been around for a very long time. I wouldn't have thought that would be the case if they are that bad.

I presume that the lock itself had been stiff in operation for a long time, as the clamp had twisted itself out of position, and just dropped into the bottom of the door when I tried turning the key. It looked to be impossible to refit without completely dismantling the door!
