MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Demister Fixings

You know the two screws that fix each demister outlet to the scuttle? Should they have a plain washer under the head?
Nick and Cherry Scoop

I’m not sure about the Frog, but my recollection of later cars is that they didn’t have washers.

I'm sure you're right but I just don't like the thought of the screws grinding into my new paint. I might tidy up the undersides of the screw heads.

I'm being much too precious about it, but they do sit slap in front of my minces.
Nick and Cherry Scoop

Nick,

no washer shown in the Moss catalogue (146) but like you I've added a small washer to protect the paint.

(with thanks to Moss for the diagram) :)

Do a search for Mylar washers. They are available in many different sizes and thickness. A .003 washer would not be visible and still protect the paint. I have done this with great success.
J Bubela

Glad you're as careful as me, Jeremy. Or is it paranoia? In the end I smoothed the screw head undersides and just went very carefully.

Good idea, JB. Of course, I would have about 97 left over, but they do look useful. As a general complaint, I'm getting fed up with discovering I need parts worth about 69p: leather washers to go under the tonneau pegs are the latest culprits, and naturally I WANT THEM NOW. But not with £4.95 p+p.

"As a general complaint, I'm getting fed up with discovering I need parts worth about 69p..."

I'm at that stage, at the moment. I think I've got everything I need, but then discover I need a bracket, or find I can't remember where I put something when I dismantled it.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you Nick :)

Jeremy MkIII

Ha ha. Good one, Jeremy.
I placed my new loom today (the centre section), and the very first thing I went to connect up was wrong - flasher with spades, loom with screw fixings. Still, at least it's another thing to add to my next order: I might make it worth the p+p by the middle of the week.
