MG Midget and Sprite Technical - engine plate
Just wondering if anyone knows anywhere that stamps onto metal as my engine is missing the engine plate. Also should the 1098cc engine have a plate under the exaust manifold saying 1100. Noticed in moss the 1275 does but doesnt show it in the earlier section. Had confusion over the engine recently.

Only some 1275s had the capacity plate fitted, not all. Also, some 1098s have '1100' cast into the block.

I got a replacement engine plate made by these people; http://www.minimail.co.uk/products.jsp?q=engine+plate If I recollect correctly, I had to send a copy of my registration document to verify the number (a scanned copy was all I sent - I think). The plate was OK when received and fitted well with the srew/rivet things as supplied. Chris

I also obtained mine from Minimail also, didn't ask for any docs when I ordered - but times may have changed requirement. Took quite a while to arrive as I think they seem to do them in batches - but very orginal (reversed pressed) and complete with little 'hammer in' rivets. R.

Thanks all did you have to drill a hole first. I can see two round marks which i assume is for the plate.

Its likely the rivets were machine off flat if the engine block was decked - so you may well be seeing the remains of the drive rivets. Mine were hard and difficult to drill out. R.

They are as hard as nails...if not harder! It might be easier to drill some new holes.

Just a tip for others. When the plate is still on there make 2 flats on the "rivets" and use pliers to just turn them out. Saves you the trouble of drilling 2 new holes

I havve used a cut off wheel to make a screwdriver slot, then just unscrewed them. They are made of a hardened steel and difficult to drill out. The holes are deeper than the rivets so the old ones can be driven down into the holes. Over here Clarkes Spares in Pennsylvania will make new plates with documentation.
