MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Flickering Lights

Hi

Please can anyone help in identifying the reason why my rear parking lights on my 68 Midget start flickering every time I switch them on then stop flickering when I leave them on for five or so minutes?

Cheers

My guess is a poor connection somewhere that improves when it warms up a bit. Unfortunately it could be anywhere from the switch to the lamp.

If both are doing it simultaneously it's probably not the lamps themselves but could easily be one of the power or earth connectors they share. If you have the original bullet type connectors I'd start by giving them a good clean and making sure they're tight.

I can't visualise the switch in a 68, but if it has spade terminals they're the next thing I'd look at.

The good news is that I don't think it will be a hard problem to track down but may need a little bit of patience.

Don't for get to check where the rear wiring loom joins the main look, just behind the dashboard on the right hand side.

If your front sidelights are OK, the switch should be alright.

I was always told that the Lucas light switch had three positions, Off, Dim and Flicker.

I've already got my coat ;-)

What Dave said. Two good points

I've just re-read my post and noticed that my iPad has been reformatting my text. 'for get' should obviously be one word, and 'main look' should be main loom.

On another car forum that I frequent, words get repeated when using an iPad, for some some reason - a bit like that <====

Dave: I think the brain has become trained to reinterpret typos and spellchecker substitutions almost without noticing. It seems much worse to the writer than it does to the reader.
It's only if something like "do" instead of "don't" appears that there could be more of an issue.

Sadly my phone spell checker does not work with the bbs, as i get some kind of weird gibberish plus words i never typed

Plus my text size is micro sized so hard to read it and hard to know what ive typed until after ive posted when i can retrive in larger text

Needless to say... im more then a little embarressed by the quality of the content i post.

Perhaps another new bigger more advanced phone is what santa needa to consider in a few months...haha
