MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Ford Type-9 (partial) number

Ford Type-9 (partial) number 85 9T-7A039- ...

does this partial number tell me anything about the box I have?

do I take it that 85 means 1985 or would that be wrong?

any help appreciated

Burton has some info on gearboxes:
http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides.html including years and models that the Type 9 was fitted to (but no gearbox numbers).

BGH Geartech may have some info

Thank you for the links Mike but nothing in them to what I want to know I'm afraid

No luck I am afraid, but there is good info on identifying the boxes, but not the internals or deciphering the numbers.

Nothing in the owner's handbook? ;p
Rob Armstrong

Rob,
it's not an original BL gearbox as fitted to the car so won't be in the good book, it's a Ford gearbox that's often used on modified vehicles like what I 'ave :D

Mike,
I thought some time back I saw some information on the numbers but I might be having a false memory

I only really want to know to confirm oil fill level but I've had the fill level at 20-25mm below the (higher) fill hole for a few months now and have been up and down some very steep inclines and declines and all seems well so I'm not that concerned

I've made a very technical dip stick to check the level but can't give details as some robbing, cheating, 'specialist experts' would probably want to steal the design as their own

Smart move nigel.

Could a local transmission specialist provide the info your needing, ive found local.shops to be very helpful if you ask nicely and when there not busy to talk for a few minutes, esp before and after hours, and

I get phone calls all the time from the public im happy to talk with them about there house painting projects, and give insight and tips even tho I never see a dime directly
