MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frog eye prices
Just noticed the following for sale at Dreeatts auction http://www.dnfa.com/search.asp?view=lotno&auction=20506&lotno=366&uniqueid=442931-15 No paperwork, in poor condition and a non runner. Normally auction houses put in low expected prices to pull in the punters but this can't be right can it? Or have I got a very nice nest egg sitting in the garage? |

Frogs are getting bloody expensive so who knows |

No trace on DVLA site. |

Perhaps the part of the valuation is due to the preceived value of the registration number should the new owner be able to reregister it. Anyone notice what looks to be a pair of Strombergs. The only set up that I've seen like that were part of an Alexander conversion. |

Not only on frogs, but my brothers MKII Sprite was converted to Strombergs. I think it was a reasonably common conversion, as in the '70's new strombergs were cheaper than new SU's. I think the price on that may reflect that it hasn't been altered much. If the engine has been apart, it's unlikley to have been bored, the engine number is still in place, and most people left them off rather than put them back with the original factory domed rivets. As for condition. where has it been stored? It may not have much if any rot, so might be better than it looks. The description says very little. Non runner means nothing at all. Might just need a quick service and it will fire up. Wish it were closer, I'd go an look. What's 5K these days? If it's esentially sound, 5K isn't bad for an unaltered frog I reckon, if it's all steel. |

Great rivets, but it's a 1098cc Morris Minor engine. |

Hmm. I think Gary may be right. The car looks a mess and maybe it's the number plate that is really up for sale here. The mileage surely can't be right, more like the clock has been right round the block once? Mine is a 948cc, all metal with original engine and gearbox and little rust. Beginning to think that maybe I do have an investment that has not gone south over last four years! Never really thought much about it's value as I would never want to sell |

As there is no record of the registration at DVLA, the reg is effectively worthless. Assuming that the original number was reassigned to it, it is likely to be non-transferrable. |

Nice one Tom, until you noticed that I thought it could be worth 3 gran however as stated not sure you could find enough evidence to secure its number plate and wrong engine? Its a worry. :) |

never mind the price of Frogs.. anyone else seen Mike Auther's recent "for sale"? A '67 MkIII for £15k ! with a rider that to replicate this would cost £40k ! |

I didn't notice the engine swap either, but irrespective of that (many frogs are 1275), and that the reg is gash, it's still a frog. If the rest is in half decent condition, it could still easily be worth that. As the description is pretty skant, it needs a visit. But too far for me. |
