MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frogeye bonnet rattle
Any recommendations or fix-its to reduce bonnet rattle on a frog. The culprit areas are the lower back parts of the wings between wheel arch and A post. And yes, I do have the stepped rubber buffers fitted but the wings are still flapping. I dont want to add any visible fasteners. I wonder about using a pair of strong magnets - I have some round industrial welding clamp magnets. |

Guy Could you slightly shorten the wing to bonnet support stays so the wings are held more tightly against the sill buffers? I realise the wings would still have to slide down the buffers. |

Good thinking, Bill. It would put a little pre-load onto their contact points on the rubber buffers. Maybe it also needs some squashy foam pads behind there. Something like pipe insulation. |

Velcro tape? Suprisingly strong. I seem to recall it comes in variety of widths with a strong adhesive backing for both hooks and eyes. Pretty sure there are some large press studs to be had somewhere.... |

Partially cured - by increasing the tickover! 😁 |

What should it be? 700/750 rpm say? |

I upped mine from around 675 to 800, as read off my timing strobe. I have also, on one side, glued some small strips of closed cell foam onto the top of the locating rubber buffers. They dont alter the bonnet wing alignment but compress as the bonnet shuts and prevent the wings from vibrating. |

yes mine idles at about 1000 rpm and no rattles at all! (except when travelling over Pave! but then the whole car shakes and rattles!) |

Increasing the idle is cheating! Mind 675 seems very low.... |
