MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frogeye fuel sender cable route

Another detail I cannot find definitive information about in the archive or elsewhere. My Frogeye boot floor needs drilling for the fuel sender cable. It looks like this should be immediately above the fuel sender i.e. fairly central in the rear part of the boot floor. Could someone please confirm this, possibly with measurements?
Bill Bretherton

Mine is at the rear of the boot floor just as is curves down to meet the rear valance where the rear light/indicators loom runs. Its right in the centre of the floor. The fuel sender cable runs along the top of the tank goes through the hole (there is a rubber grommet). You can see the cable when looking from underneath
Bob Beaumont

Bill, mine is the same as Bobs, because that is where I drilled it. Possibly, although I don't remember for sure, because I got advice on the position from Bob!

What I did do though, was to fit an extra earth cable rather than relying on the sender unit earthing via its screws to the tank. I have had trouble in the past with my other car, of the screws corroding and making a poor earth connection which is troublesome to rectify when the tank is fitted to the car.

Bob/ Guy, thanks again for the information. It makes sense that the cable enters the boot adjacent to the rear wiring loom. The earth wire sounds a good idea Guy. I have the original sender, which works correctly, but I've changed the rusted out metal float to a plastic one (fuel resistant) attached with JB weld, which is supposed to be fuel resistant.
Bill Bretherton

Bill, be sure to fit the sender the right way around! It will go in but get it wrong and the float arm rises up and hits the inside top of the tank before the thing is full.

Or is it the other way around - it hits the bottom of the tank and prevents it recording empty? I know its possible to get it wrong, even though I cannot now remember which one it is!
GuyW

Thanks Guy, will bear in mind.
