MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frogeye Seat Fitting & Side screen problems

I having a couple problems with my rebuild, oddly enough they are with the bits that I thought would be simple.
The first problem is with fitting the seats. It’s had new floors and the strengthening rail that runs parallel to the sill is obstructing where the wooden spacers go. It’s not massive just enough to make it so that it doesn’t fit. Has anybody had this problem before?
My second problem is fitting the new seals to the side screens, any handy hints gratefully received.
Rob Sheldon

Have you drilled the floor yet, Rob? I remember having to do that, and I do have some dimensions on file.

But I also have a Frog sitting in the garage with the interior all taken out, so anything I can do to help . . . . . . . .

You've confused me, admittedly that's fairly easy
The wooden spacer goes inside the car under the runner and the floor strengthener is under the car so only the holes should need a bit of fettleing. The window seals I put mine in hot water for 10-15 mins and they got a lot more plyable/ stretchable.
Hope it helps

I think Rob must mean the top hat section inside the car, which gives rise to the need for a spacer.

Now It's clear I forgot about that one
My runner goes tight along the edge with just a bit of room for carpet

My spacers (home made but copied from the old ones) are asymmetrical, the holes are not in the middle so check you have them the right way round.

Sidescreen seals, the felt ones or the rubber ones? With the rubber ones the trick is a nice hot day or a warm room, some lubricant (I use silicone spray which is less messy than liquid soap) and a selection of the plastic filler spreaders with the bevelled edges. Tuck one side of the seal tail into the slot and then use the spreader to gently push the other side in. Once finished you may need to creep the seal one way or the other in it's slot as you'll almost certainly either have compressed it or stretched it.

Check the rubber seals are the right size. I was once sent a set that were far too long.

Felt seals: I have done this job but not for about twenty years so can't remember how I did it.

I did it pretty much the same way as Jeremy. I also received ones which were too long. I'll give you one guess which company that was.
