MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frogeye tonneau front pegs

For the Frogeye,I have measurements for the front central tonneau peg (on the scuttle just left of mirror) but my scuttle top has not been drilled for the outer two pegs. Are they the same distance in from the scuttle rear edge i.e. about 31mm/ 1.25" and, if so, how far from the centre line i.e. between mirror holes?

I have a tonneau which may have shrunk and not yet test fitted but would be unsure how much to stretch it. In any case, I better stick to the orginal peg positions I think.
Bill Bretherton

Anyone please? I'd really appreciate a measurement.
Bill Bretherton

Mine would be of no use as the tonneau stretches all the way over to the mirror and the front peg is actually in the left hand hole of the mirror. So I've got a screw holding in the right hand side of the mirror and a peg in the left hand side. Dual purpose for the tonneau and the mirror!
G Lazarus

Thanks Gary, but I do mean the position of the outermost two peg holes.
Bill Bretherton

Not able to measure mine at the moment Bill, but when I drilled those holes it was after doing all the others and then fitting the tonneau to use as a guide. Only problem the positions were mighty close to the vertical flange joint underneath, and I only discovered this after drilling! Solution was to get the Dremel out and fashion a recess in the flange for the nut to slip into.

Thanks Guy, will bear that in mind. At least I know the rear hole positions - the deck is original and I have an old rear wing to take measurements from.
Bill Bretherton

Should the tonneau (and presumably also the hood) have a continuous metal bar to engage with the chrome eggs on the rear deck (like an MGB). My tonneau just has 2 short 3" lengths of aluminium flat bar tucked into the seam at the right places.
GuyW

Just the two short metal straps is standard on a mk1 sprite tonneau.
G Lazarus

guy
the hood has a continual bar but as Gary says the tonneau has two short strips. All the ones I have ever seen were steel rather than aluminium. I think the reason for the difference in bars is because the hood is fitted from the front and pulled over the rear stays. Its not critical for the tonneau.
Bob Beaumont

Thanks.
I do have a full length bar, picked up from somewhere, but it appears to be too long. I think its for an MGB.
GuyW

I posted an answer to the original question but it has disappeared! On my car the peg is 38mm forward of the end of the dash ally trim and 97mm outboard of the outer demister vent screw. See photo.

Thanks Les, useful information.
