MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frogeye/ Mk1 Midget windscreen rubber

I am looking at my windscreen, frame and seal. So far so good, but where does the filler strip go?. The old one does not have a filler strip(and has been lose), and the rubber only has a 'slot' for the glass. Can anyone tell me where the filler strip should be placed(avoid the temptation please!). A photo or relevent diagram would be invaluable. Thanks

The windscreen rubber goes in the other way round to most cars with the filler strip going on the inside facing the cockpit.

I'm not sure to what you are referring? Is this the early frogeye windscreen of the later frogeye windscreen?
Trevor Jessie

The "H" shaped windshield rubber should have a groove into which the filler strip is inserted. If the groove is missing on yours you may have some type of aftermarket seal.

As Trevor says there is a difference in seals between late and early bugeyes. The above refers to the later style on my 1960. Can't comment on the early styles.

The new rubber I bought from Moss includes the seal ("H" shape) and the filler strip in the same package. Not knowing that I also ordered a filler strip. The separate strip Moss shipped (UK I think) is bigger in cross section than the Moss packaged set (IIRC China). I doubt it will fit in the China seal.

Other windshields I have worked with had aluminum filler strips. These were installed in the rubber before the glass went in the frame. Is that also the case for the rubber fillers?

Thankyou for the comments. The windscreen is the two stud later type.
So am I understanding correctly in that the filler strip goes in the same grove as the glass? (It is the only grove in the rubber seal I have). And if so is it placed in before the glass, or pushed in after the glass? Sorry if I am missing something.

The seal should have 3 grooves. The outer one that fits onto the frame, the inner one that the glass fits into and the third one which is on the inside of the car into which the filler strip goes. That one isn't as deep as the other two which are opposite of each other on the vertical while the filler groove is on the horizontal. And anyway you approach it, it's the easiest part of installing the rubber.

Problem solved. Wrong seal supplied. It is the seal for the 9 stud screen I think!
But this also raises a further doubt - is the glass the correct size. The surround is a 2 stud surround but was always a bit distorted and there was a problem with the hardtop causing the frame and glass/seal to separate. The screen glass measures 11 1/4 inches at the centre(least height). Can anyone confirm that this is the correct glass for the 2 stud surround?
Thanks
