MG Midget and Sprite Technical - frontline front suspension old

My Frontline front suspension is over 100.000 miles old. The Delrin bearings in the upper bearings have play as well as the upper fulcrum pin. The fulcrum pin is not very well attached. The allen bolt is very small and therefore the pin can vibrate loose. I'm going to mount a thicker allen bolt and possibly a new bushing and fulcrum pin.
I have not been able to buy individual parts from Frontline. Do I really have to make everything myself or do you know a supplier?

You're on your own Flip.

FL don't supply parts to renovate/repair either your mk2 delrin set, or the original mk1 oilite/bronze bush set.

Anam. I wonder why that is. After all, stuff wears out, so you would think they would carry spares for their products.
I recently contacted them for a replacement driven plate for my 5speed type 9 clutch, but they wouldn’t let me have the plate by itself. I would have had to buy a complete clutch which was very expensive. I bought the original from them and it is considerably over engineered for the Sprite, particularly the pressure plate so I didn’t need it. I managed to source a plate on eBay which I think will do the job, so they lost a sale.

Bernie you can get driven plates refurbished with new friction surfaces. Thats what I did with my T9 clutch. ÂŁ45 including postage.
Presumably too late for you now though it may be worth keeping that old plate.

What size driven plate?. IIRC the 7.5" is an off the shelf item, the 6.5" is a special although it has been said to be a standard item I've not seen anyone post the application.

When I did my Ford 4 speed conversion I used an early mk1 Escort 6.5" driven plate but that is a smaller 19 spline not the larger 23 spline used by the type 9. I've not seen that driven plate listed recently in clutch application listings as it was quite early but was listed in publications in the late 1980s when I was doing the conversion.

Nigel would have something to say about FL. I agree it seems to make no sense for them not to supply spares. I guess they must assume people will just buy a whole new setup from them. I think if they supplied spares, they'd give confidence to sell more stuff.

Guy, I remember reading about your success in having plates relined - could you remind me of the supplier's details please - I've a couple of MGB ones for our Gilbern that need doing.

Perfect, thanks Alan. Now added to my supplier list and my phone contacts :-)

I contacted Precision Clutch today and they are going to refurb my current Frontline clutch plate. I wasn’t sure about the one I got from EBay, so I decided to get the old one re-done.
Thanks to Alan for the contact.
Bernie.
