MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fuel gauge/sender earth?
Hi Before I drop the fuel tank, how and where is the fuel gauge or fuel gauge sender earthed? All I ‘know’ is one wire goes to the sender. Cheers Mike |

Through the sender / tank / body. I always run a wire from the sender body to the 'chassis'. |

Mike Assuming a mk2 Sprite, the gauge must be earthed - it is probably only through gauge body to dash on yours. I think it's better to add a separate earth wire from the gauge clamp to a known good earth. |

What Alan said, and I too run an extra wire from the sender to the body, just for peace of mind. Malc. |

The original wiring loom should have an earth wire to the gauge clamp, at least it is on a Frogeye! |
Bob Beaumont |
Thanks Bob, I stand corrected! However, it's worth pointing out that if the gauge is not earthed it will not work. |

As others have done, when I made the wiring loom for my Frog, I included a dedicated earth wire to the tank sender. I made both sender wire and earth with long tails which connect into the loom inside the boot so should I need to drop the tank they are easy to disconnect. |

I must try that on mine. I just have one wire to/from the sender and thinking about it the tank is well insulated from the body by foam pads. Should earth through the bolts but there is a lot of paint on the studs. I’m dropping the tank soon anyway, my gauge isn’t working properly and the new sender seal isn’t doing its job. So brimming the tank leads to rather embarrassing floods of fuel at the petrol station! |
