MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Gearbox attachment for 1275 exhaust.

I have a 1275 exhaust for the Frogeye which now has a 1275 engine and ribcase gearbox. I assume the exhaust clamp near the gearbox attaches to the strap, as shown in Moss diagram, which bolts to the right angle gearbox bracket. Correct? Does the right angle bracket then bolt to the front face of the backplate or the rear face of the gearbox and is it with the horizontal flange pointing rearwards?

I have an LCB but if I recall it goes on the rear face of the gearbox with the flange rearwards. I don't think its that critical as the clamp on the pipe can be moved to suit

Bill,
what Bob says IIRC.

Thanks Bob and Jeremy. I keep reading about LCB's and Maniflows on here so might eventually go that route. I just like the original sound of the standard exhaust despite the more restricted gas flow.

The standard set up is perfectly ok especially the later 1098/1275 one. Your 1275 giving 65BHP is 20BHP or so more than the original 950!!

Bill,

appreciate what you mean. The LCB with an RC40 makes my standard 1275 sound more like a B [MG rather than bumble:)] which is a nice rich bass but I still have the original M&G International supplied twin box system in the shed just in case...
