MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Half Shaft stuck
So I was driving around today and with a small click I lost all drive... Prop shaft is still spinning but nothing going to the wheels... Have pulled the offside half shaft and that is fine but the near side will not budge more than half an inch... When it is fully in it doesn't turn the diff, when it is out half an inch it turns the diff... Any tips on how I can get the half shaft out to get the diff off and see what is wrong...? |

Sounds like the 1/2 shaft has twisted and broken. See thread help broken half shaft which suggests what to do. may need a bit a brute force. |

There was also this thread, just archived, that mused on the crappy design of the half shafts. http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=archiveth&archiveyear=97_2016.dat&access=&subject=97&subjectar=97&source=T&thread=2016051810012927528 Don't tell Rob, he doesn't believe half shafts break! :-D Cheers, Malcolm |

If you ever get it out, some pictures would be cool. |

I will probably need a new half shaft but obviously need to get this one out first :( |

if it comes out half an inch, and you've removed the studs already, you should be able to bolt up a slide hammer to it and pull it out that way. |
