MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Heater tap
I have a problem, I'm renewing water hoses and the heater tap has corroded and snapped off when i was taking the hose off it, leaving the plinth and studs in place, the plinth is staying were it is, any ideas how to get the plinth off? |

Sorry, tea, got to be quick - remove nuts and washers from studs, get a small chisel or a screwdriver under the plinth and tap them up gently. Only buy new tap from Ashley Hinton if you don't want a leak. all assumes you mean a-series engine not 1500. |

undo the 2 nuts (the studs may come out with them, not a problem) and then use a small screwdriver and hammer into the join between plinth and head to break the seal thenp pull the plinth off the studs. It's like taking the cyl head off in miniature. |

The alloy plinths do sometimes break up when you try the remove them. One of the joys of owning an old car. |

Pretty sure you get the plinth and gasket with the tap from Ashley Hinton but NOT the shim/washer for fixing to round heater box pipe position. |

Thanks Guys brilliant info thanks, i'll do this tomorrow |

Hi guys thanks for your help, all sorted, chiselled the plinth until it came loose, no damage to the head either, well pleased :) |

Well done. It's amazing how well the tap set up will be sealed when you want to remove it but was possibly reluctant to seal when fitting. |
