MG Midget and Sprite Technical - High volume, low pressure (HVLP)

Anyone used a fairly new one lately like a Clark? And what the results are like?
Dave Squire

No. I have an Apollo which I purchased second hand nearly 30 years ago.
I've resprayed a few cars with it, over the years.
How much does the Clarke retail at?

I have three guns, 2 devilbis and one SATA minijet, all give good results spraying cellulose.
Like all things you get what you pay for, what are you planning on spraying ? the SATA I have is very adjustable the others are not so, but they were the ones I used for my first spray job of my car.

The lesson I learnt was even with a peel finish you will still be able to polish it up nicely, it will just take time and effort.

I used an Apollo when I painted Lara, as Peter says orangepeel is easy to polish flat later

Werlll, easy-ISH

should have added earlier, that www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk are worth chatting to, they will be able to advise you, and suggest different guns for different paints, as well as fluid tip sizes and so on. . . .its a whole world of learning !!

On HVLP... go high end and spend the money, other wise you will get a so,so paint job

I have a couple hvlp guns and compressors, it really comes down to what your spraying and what type of paint your spraying

I hate seeing people thinking orange peel is acceptable, better spend a bit more money on some extra paint and practice to get it put down right, the worst that'll happen is some runs or curtains but they can be sanded out and polished, in between you can get a good finish. It is quite possible to get a very good finish straight from the gun if the paint is laid down right. For practice paint ask the supplier if they have some mixing cock-ups, the place I used to buy cellulose often had them and would sell it off at about 1/2 price.

Thanks guys.

No issue with cutting paint back.

Some guns start at about £30 and as the technology / value for money should have improved over the years I was wondering spray versus brush for one pack poly.

I am good with a brush so that's not out of the frame but obviously it would all be quicker with a spray. Apart from the masking up that is :-(

I used the Concours HVLP gun from Eastwood. Sprayed high fill primer, primer, urethane color, and clear with it. Very happy with the result This is the first car I have painted in many years. I painted it in my garage with the bonnet, doors, and boot lid off. Just to make it challenging The lighting was not very good, I painted the doors and boot lid outside in the driveway. I had cataract surgery twice since, one when the lenses were replaced and once for the ones behind the lens, I also have Parkinson's, and nerve damage from diabetes.
Not only did the paint turn out very nice but there was no, as in NO, overspray even under the car.
The point is, if I can do it, I can't imagine why anybody couldn't.
