MG Midget and Sprite Technical - How do I fit chrome trim to A pillar?
Can someone please tell me how to put the chrome trim on the A pillar. Looks like a normal clip but large hole suggests perhaps the threaded studs but there's no access from the inside. The trim has two studs so I don't know how to fit it. The front panel isn't fitted properly which is why there's a big gap. ![]() |

I bought new trim and looks like I wasn't supplied with the correct retainer for the front. There's no rear access at the front so what I've got won't work. Looks like a plug goes in the hole.

Double sided up front would be fine, especially with the clip at the rear but I will have to get the fornt sill and guards repainted (not happy with job done) and so will go with the orignal plug to make it easier to remove. mmmm, probably a £2 order with £5 postage. |

what about a plastic /nylon small wall anchor...just insert it into the hole with some silicon then screw the clip into it... Im not sure if if they make a butterfly anchor that small...but that would work really well to maybe weld a flat.washer to the top of a hylecoil threaded insert and install that into the hole to screw the clip into just some thoughts prop |

According to Moss, they're 18p each. I'll have a look at the MG show today. |

Thanks Dave. If not I can try Props suggestions and see if I can make something. |

No sooner said than done. I've just found some at 'Mr B' for 10p each |

Thanks. I'm not sure about Mr B though, wasn't there a Mr M? ;) You guys are so lucky to be able to go along to MG swap meets. |

Here's picture of one that I'd had "in stock" for about 20 years and never got round to fitting. As you can see it's supplied(from Moss) with push fit plugs. (sold on E-bay a few months ago) ![]() |

Greg, you probably know all this by now but here is a photo showing what came off my '66 MkII and what it will be replaced with. On the original there was a small spring clip that fit into the larger front hole. The trim piece was pressed into place after the clip was installed. A spire nut held the rear stud and was installed from the backside of the A-post. Both Moss US and Moss Europe sell the spring clip and the spire nut as separate items. I bought the fitting kit for upper side mouldings from Moss. It does not have the metal spring clip but a plastic press-in anchor. I think the plastic anchor is probably a good idea since it won't rust like the spring clip. I may use a dab of silicone adhesive on the anchor. Paul ![]() |

I didn't know about the little spring clips but I'm all sorted now because Dave is posting a couple of plastic plugs over to me. |

They are winging their way as we speak/type. |

Thanks Dave. They were spot on. :) It's aboout ready to go for its inspection. New tyres tommorrow and after that just a couple of minor tidy up jobs. I'm hoping it'll be on the road in the next 2-3 weeks. ![]() |
