MG Midget and Sprite Technical - HS2 carb flexible pipe issue
My rear carb flexible pipe has a leak where it screws to the base of the float chamber. Can I verify how it should be inserted I.e. according to the attached Moss diagram, should the rubber seal (28) be pushed onto the end of the pipe ferrule (29) with the metal washer (27) between the seal and the nut (26)? In which case, should the seal then squeeze tight against the ferrule so that the pipe is held tight?

Yes Bill That's how mine were assembled. Bob |

Don't overtighten it! |

OK, thanks both. Hopefully, it will seal. |

Bill Is this an existing old pipe or a new install? If the former could be time for a new pipe (comes with end fittings and as part of jet tube). If new install - damaged threads or cross threaded or missing washer? Cheers Mike |

Hi Mike I rebuilt the carbs nearly three years ago using existing pipes but new rubber seals. It may be that I didn't have the seal pushed onto the ferrule properly and the pipe has eased its way out. The jets seemed ok so I didn't buy new ones so the integral pipes are original. |

It is a most peculiar setup |

Tim, maybe that's why SU changed to an integrated float design I.e. HI(ntegrated)F(loat chamber). I still like the HS2 though. |

Bill, Pic is of an old one missing the seal on the end. The pipe being a sort of poly does get very stiff with age. R. ![]() |

Thanks Richard. Now fixed. Re-fitted carb (easier to fix removed), re-tuned the pair and now all seems fine. |
