MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Kitchen Fan Controller NMC

Awful cheek to ask this here, but does anybody know whether these switches need to be powered up to work?
I'm just wiring up a Vent-Axia controller, and with the switch at the ON position there is no continuity between the feed terminal and the fan terminal.

Nick
I'd imagine it would be an electronic controller, if so then depending on how it's setup inside it might or might not have a circuit between the feed and fan terminals

It's not a variable resistor, it operates by giving out a variable pulse width supply to the fan --Usually when it's powered up the + terminal will be live and the - terminal will vary depending on where the controller is set to -BUT--Not all controllers work the same so only guessing that, that is how yours is----
William Revit

Nick, when you say "feed" do you mean the live output from the controller? When you say "fan terminal" do you mean the input connections to the fan? If so then surely they are joined by a 3 core cable (live, neutral, earth)?
Bill Bretherton

My understanding of Nick's description is the feed terminal is controller input and fan terminal is controller output.

Other than that, I'm afraid I can't help.

May not be the same as the kitchen variants, but I have just fitted a bathroom Ventaxia fan and it has both permanent and switched live feeds. Switched feed switches the fan on, permanent feed keeps it running after the switched feed is removed (light turned off) fan then runs until timer times-out.

Glad that you blokes understand this stuff. Thanks Willy: I went ahead and closed up the control unit (always a big moment for me because of the way the new wiring gets squashed in the box, and I imagine the stripped ends easing out of their terminals) and then introduced some power to the circuit.
Lo and behold, the fan feed goes live when I slide the rather annoying slider switch on the controller. So I imagine the switch does need to be powered, to make the connection.
Sorry to be imprecise, Bill. I meant what Dave said.
Simon - mine is simpler, thank goodness.
Nick and Cherry Scoop

Well done Nick, I'd misunderstood what you meant! Providing the screws are tight, the wires won't come out but wiring into boxes does squash up a bit. It's all about cutting the cables short enough but not TOO short!

Simon
Thanks for your post, I've been looking for a fan/light with a delayed fan turn off here for ages - I've got a brand name now so can chase it up-------thankyou

just to get it right, when you turn that off the light goes out but the fan continues for a while - ? Is that time adjustable, -if not how long would you estimate that it runs for
Cheers

Willy

They’re very common on this side of the globe. Yes, the time delay is adjustable.

This one is adjustable up to 20 minutes

Thanks Dave
Maybe I havn't been looking hard enough
--------grrrr , more work
William Revit

Apologies for reviving this, but I thought you might like to see a picture of the installation.

Nick and Cherry Scoop

I am looking for a fan like that but all that Ifind are noisy. Our rec room is always way too hot 82* while rest of house is 76 degrees. Noise is a real factor for us.
Sandy
Naples Florida where it's 94* outside now.
Sanders

Interesting filter you have there, Nick. It looks remarkably familiar.
Dave O'Neill 2

Nice timber is that a light Blackwood-----
William Revit

Just oak, Willy. Random stuff, but pretty straight-grained, so not English. Lots of kitchen-miles to get it here.
Not sure I like the filter yet, but it was going spare so I modified it to fit (only a friction fit).
