MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Knurled Spring Washers

My manifold came with the usual brass nuts and the big fat slightly convex on one face washers, and spring washers knurled on one face.

Which way do they go, and why?
Nick and Cherry Scoop

Unusual.

Probably knurled towards the nut, but I can't see it making that much difference.

Thanks, Dave. I could make a case for either way, and the question entertained me for some time while I scraped the bottom of the fuel tank.
Nick and Cherry Scoop

Overthinking?
Graeme Williams

I don't know, Graeme: you may be right. One's first opinion may be the better one. But I'm not ashamed of spending time in my head.
Nick and Cherry Scoop

Spring washers go either way round - I think the "knurling" is just part of the manufacturing process.
