MG Midget and Sprite Technical - LED Flashers
I have just arrived home from my trip to the NEC Classic Car Show. I purchased some LED head lamps plus a set to replace most of the other bulbs. Everthing is fine, nice and white/bright apart from the flashers. These light up but don't flash. It was these that I wanted to up grade so other drivers can see when I am turning. Obviously the current draw is wrong. Is it too small or too large. If it is the former can I put a resistance in the circuit, perhaps a small wattage hidden bulb, or do I need a different flasher unit.

You need a different indicator relay, one that can cope with the tiny current LEDs use. |

Too small I think Jan. The LEDs draw such little current that it fails to 'warm up' the bimetal strip in the flasher unit which makes the incandescent(?) bulbs flash so as Mike says, you need a flasher unit suitable for LEDs. |

You can go the new flasher can route but as you say a hidden bulb will do it They do make little in line resistor kits to fix this eg--set of 4 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/386205553497?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE |

Mine worked with the original 'can' though I had opened it up and rewound the coil as it had broken. I may inadvertantly have changed it and made it more responsive to the low LED current draw? |

Thanks for the responses. I should have googled the problem but the BBS is my firts port of call. I ordered an electronic flasher unit last night. J T |
