MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Limited Slip Diffs
Hi, Now I know what I doing to do to the front suspension my next task is the diff. Quaife, Tran-x, Kaaz or Gripper? Don't know anything about Kaaz and heard conflicting stories about Quaife, Tran-x and Gripper. Using car for HRCR historics, sprint, Hillclimb. Your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated. Thanks Peter |

Peter, The following site, 2500+ pages addresses several types of limited slip differentials and their performance under a variety of driving conditions. http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/ Regards, Jim H. |

Mine is a Tran-x and seems very good. It made quite a difference to the way it drives - in a positive way. If you go for the Tran-x make sure you go for the right oil. Mine clunked and groaned with the Valvoline oil I used (right grade) at first but changing it to a make I can't remember at the mo (I'll have a look tomorrow) made all the difference. |

Mmm, there are books with this stuff in. That book even explains that the Quaife isn't an LSD. Your choice is between the Quaife and the various types of plate diff. Ideally you'd use one type for wet events and the other for dry events. As an aside Quaife now own Tran-X so Quaife means ATB and Tran-x means plate diff made by Quaife. You might want to check the regs to check that you're allowed to use something other than an open diff. |
