MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Little jobs!

Why is it that "Little Jobs" never stay that way? At the end of a hot day I decided on a whim, to bleed the clutch and brakes.

The clutch is simple as it is self bleeding, by gravity. Just open the bonnet, check the reservoir is brimmed, slip a clear plastic tube over the bleed nipple and open the nipple a quarter tun. Count to 10, collecting the fluid as it comes through, and retighten. Job done,

Then the brakes. All was going fine until as I nipped up the rear o/s nipple it strips the thread in the wheel cylinder. And as I don't have a handy spare this is going to put me off the road for a few days waiting for a delivery. Grr!

And now, a flooded car. :-(
I had left the car with the back end up on axle stands awaiting arrival of a new brake cylinder. So when the torrential downpours hit this afternoon water landing on the tonneau just streamed forwards over the front edge and down into the footwell.

I was out when the thunderstorms started, but when l got back the water was over the top of the floor cross member and with the back end up it was deeper than that at the pedals. It's all a bit soggy down in there! It will be a seats out job tomorrow to get it dried out.

Wot a bugger. And I was moaning about getting my ar*e wet coming home on my pushbike.
Hope there's no permanent damage.
Greybeard

Bad luck Guy-------
Grey
not a wet butt--oh no, they're waterproof though, so when it dries out it will return to normal --is the bike ok ----------------lol
William Revit

Sorry to hear that Guy. Sort of thing that happens to me......
W Bretherton

Ouch. Sorry Guy.
Have you had that one where your open up-and-over garage door goes just beyond the horizontal, so that rain falling on the outer half runs through to the inner half and falls in a sheet into the open cockpit? Similar effect.
Nick and Cherry Scoop

Not too bad - I bailed out 2 1/2 bucketfulls, that's 5 gallons! Dried it out with sponges and rags and it has been drying out in today's sunshine whilst I replaced the rear brake cylinders. Those circlips ensured plenty of drying out time!

And no Nick - I haven't tried that one! My common trick is not to open it fully thinking I will just duck under it. Clearly I am taller than the dwarf that I think I am as hitting the edge of the door with one's forehead at a fast walking speed has floored me on more than one occasion!

The blue Sprite is due (overdue) its MOT. I think it is all ready now but I do keep thinking of other things to fiddle with. Procrastination rules!
GuyW

I wanted to be a procrastinator but never got around to it!

Well done Guy.
I always found that it was the soundproofing that held the most water for the longest time.

Fortunately my present Midget doesn't have any soundproofing so normally the only time the interior gets cleaned is when I forget to put the hood up and it rains.

I've just failed an MoT on the Midget having totally forgot to check the bleeding obvious despite asking the MoT tester about it before booking the MoT. Plus I got a stone chip in the windscreen on the way to booking the MoT, luckily despite its more than 5p size it did't affect the MoT. Now I've got to fit in a retest on the failed item this week which I could well do without.
Nigel Atkins

Annoying, an MOT failure. So Nigel, what was the obvious item? Just so l know what it is that l have forgotten to check!
GuyW

You might try putting a dehumidifier in the passenger seat with a tarp over the whole car. The more you seal the tarp around the edges the better it should work. I did this on my daughter's old Audi sedan when she left the sun roof open. Being a closed car made it easier.
