MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Loom question

Does anywhere know where this joint is ?

Its inside the loom and joins the fairly chunky brown ("N") cables from the Solenoid (feed from the battery) to the ignition switch, main light switch and the fuse box (to become the purple live feed to horns & interior lights etc)

Car is '73 with Alternator, but no hazards.

I'm planning some changes and would like to seperate out some of those circuits but dont want to have to unwrap loads of the loom to find the joint.

Dean,
I don't know exactly where this is but... It's not likely to be "in the loom". More likely it is a four way bullet connector somewhere near the point where the engine bay loom diverts to go inside the car.

I would check where the rear harness plugs in to the main harness (under the dash I think) and around the fuse box area.

I've found that diagram to be a very accurate representation of the bullet connectors - and it does show that gaggle of bullets to the rear loom up behind the corner of the dash by the right hand side. (I actually have my retro fitted hazards hooked into the indicators there).

Probably is worth a good look with the torch though thanks.

I would hazard a guess that it is near the righthand bonnet hinge, where the regulator would be on a dynamo-equipped car.

See if you can find a bulge in the loom there.

I fully agree...in the usa, I wont say for fact, but I think that connection in the dash over the top of the radio consel

having done a fair bit of work on my loom recently, I don't remember any four way bullet connectors in the brown circuit. connectors are shown as the boxes with wires through them on the diagram.

let me have a look at some pictures at lunch time...

Thanks Malcolm & Prop

Unfortunately I have a centre console that isnt quick to remove but just been out to the garage to have a further poke.

I think I can see the bundle of 4 browns terminating in a soldered "bunch" (definately not a 4-way bullet) exactly where Prop says - they pop out of the loom almost dead centre in the dash where there is a metal loop to hold the loom
Dean Smith ('73 RWA)

And now I know what to look for I can see them in the pics I took of the last time my dash was out.

You cant see the colour - but can see the bundle taped to the loom just by the voltage regulator

Appreciate the replies.

Damn,

I was just putting this together and was going to say it is either behind the dash (my first guess) or my second guess (as pictured, if you can see/read it) near where the wiper motor comes out of the loom.

It may have changed at various stages though, but pretty sure it will be a clump of wires that step a couple of inches out the loom but don't go anywhere, so should be easy to find.

Picture from ebay.

Cheers,
Malcolm

P.S. Think that is a late 1500 loom.
M Le Chevalier

My Autosparks loom had one in the engine bay, but that may have been a non-standard joint.

What is the blue button Dave? Starter button?

Appreciate all the pics and effort. Its a little worrying how much current gets pumped through things like the ignition switch and light switch as standard.

Malcolm

It's one of the nozzles for the plumbed-in extinguisher.

This was the 'other' end of it...

Dave O'Neill 2

You know what would have been funny back in the day....

A BMC factory dude, sticking an odd wire into the loom with connection not hooked up to anything....haha

Oh right. Thanks Dave. Was a little confused as I thought there were a group of brown wires going to it... but then couldn't figure out what the pipe out the back was. Obvious now I know what it is!

Cheers.
