MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MIMILITES ON BUG EYE
Just bought a set of original MINILITES. the 4 holes are 3/4" all the way through. I am looking for a set (16) wheel nuts. Was this a normal sized hole? If so I can start looking. Sandy |

Thats a big dia hole sandy.... Does nut lock from on top of the wheel? Prop |

That's pretty much the standard hole size for any "mag" wheels (meaning aluminum). The lug nut goes into the hole and has a washer that sits against the wheel. Just go to a parts house or tire dealer and tell them what you've got. |

Also Check the mating surface of the wheel where the nut hits Some have flat washers as mentioned and most likely what you have but some of the later ones had a taper on the hole like an ordinary wheel nut and take either a conical washer or a large taper on the outside of the nut edge willy If it's the flat washer type make sure you get nuts that are a neat fit in the hole as it is most likely that the nuts themselves will be doing all the centralising of the wheel |

From the photos ive seen the nut fits inside the hole. But sandy says the hole.goes straight thur without a shoulder to clamp onto |

Minilite fit a steel insert into the wheel for the nut to bear against. I would suggest that you contact Minilite themselves to see if they can supply the inserts separately. This is the website link: http://minilite.co.uk/index.htm Richard |

Sandy 3/4" is the hole usually for 7/16"-1/2" studs, maybe the car they came off had oversize studs fitted, which was/is the norm for a car that is to be driven in anger Are your wheels 'genuine' old minilites - If they are they would have had these-- http://www.spridgetmania.com/invdetail.cfm?item=CN3&pt=Wheel-Lug-Nut-6a-Bolt-Type-Original-Minilite-wolfrace-slot-M&setCarType=2 BUT you can't use them as they aren't 3/4"od and the wheel won't centre up properly As Martin W. suggests ,take a wheel to your local parts supplier and get nuts 3/8" thread 3/4"od ,they should be able to supply Just be aware that you need the nut to finish about 1/8" less than the thickness of the wheel so that it doesn't get threadbound cheers willy Sandy-I'm sure some wheel makers used the common 3/4 hole for all sized nuts, you'll find them somewhere but I can't stress strongly enough that they HAVE to be a neat fit in the hole to secure the wheel properly- not you Prop ,the other properly |
