MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Mystery rear hub
Hi all, I've been cleaning and refurbing the rear axle on my 1500, and have two different inner hubs, the left hub (right in the photo) appears to be correct, the other one...? Can anyone identify the origin of the right hub, and should I look for a correct replacement? There's no leakage or play, and all seems to fit OK. Thanks much, Sean ![]() |

No, never seen anything like it. If it's working OK, it's probably alright to leave it. If you do want to change it, I've got some spaare hubs. I'm also in Cardiff tomorrow, if it helps. daveo138 at yahoo dot co dot uk |

Hi Dave, I am inclined to leave well alone, it's not (apparantly) caused any problems so far but a good spare wouldn't hurt! I'm in Cardiff, so could meet up? Cheers! Sean |

Looking at the photos again, the halfshafts don't look 'normal' either. Obviously one hub has been changed, but it looks like the shafts may have also been replaced. |

The halfshafts were replaced maybe six years ago, after a break. As I recall they came from MGBHive. The ones they replaced were cut down Morris Minor ones - someone went to the trouble of cutting, drilling, turning and welding the shafts to fit! They must've lasted about fifteen to twenty years before one of the welds gave out on a slippery day in January! Needless to say, I swopped them both... Sean |

Modern repro halfshafts do have that larger dome - I have one like it some where... |
