MG Midget and Sprite Technical - New HT leads
Grrr this triumph engine. So in my 1500, you will be aware that you have to take the alternator off to take the no 1 spark plug out unless you have the MG special tool. I just bought some new silicon HT leads from the MGOC, and they come with long straight sockets... this means no 1 lead rests on the alternator... which is bad... could...plug may cross to ground in the alternator and not spark and maybe damage the alternator. Any thoughts on getting some decent HT leads with short 90 degree bends on the spark plug end - without spending £50

if your at the NEC you'll probably see loads do Halfords do the individual boxed single leads that have bendy plug end connectors or Bosch sets? or you can send off for leads that you can make up yourself - cut to length then put on the required straight or 90 degree ends - remember to allow for slight timing changes so don't have leads to tight or slack I got a set years ago from a hot rod/dragster/American cars type place, fabulous quality and not expensive, thick and heat resistant generally with various cars I’ve never found the standard pre-made sets for the specific model of car to be a tidy fit

sorry done it again mised out the most important word >>generally with various cars I’ve never found the standard pre-made sets for the specific model of car NOT to be a tidy fit<<

Maybe you could fit a slightly longer belt for the alternator/water pump. I feel your pain, BTW. -:G:-

Gryf I like that idea! Nice and simple... might even be enough space in the tension adjustment without having to make up an adaptor!

| Don't remember having access problems to No1 spark plug on my 1500. I use the tool pictured or the proper socket with a universal joint & it seems to work fine. Think my spark plugs were for a Mini and they are Bosch standard ones from Halfrauds and seem quite neat. -C

It's easier to loosen off the belt and move the alternator but depending what tools you have may not have to be done. I have some universal joints etc so I don't have to move it. As for 90 degree ends on the wires, we used a set off a genuine Mini that we found in the scrappers yard. Worked for years, even said Lucas on them and no one knew they weren't factory fitted. You might want to try that route?
