MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Oil catch can
I have a rear 'seal' leak of a few drops on shut down and, until I fix it the next time I take the engine out, I have fitted an oil catch can. Seems to work well, is secured by nuts on two bell housing bolts and cleared some aggressive road humps. ![]() |

Mine is the same, only a Duckhams can version. The theory is you can empty it by removing the cap but mine rarely has much in it! |

Great minds and all that. I looked in the archives for a design to copy but found nothing, hence posting my version here. The screw cap is at the lowest point but on checking the oil had not made it to the cap yet. |

I came across a photo of one like ours fitted to an MGA, and pinched the idea for my frogeye. Mine maybe a bit shallower than yours |

Mine will be too, in version 2, particularly now I have seen how little oil actually comes out. The side photo makes it look much deeper than it actually is.

Instead of a drain cap at the bottom, why not run a tube up the side into the engine bay, and syringe/draw any collected oil up and out from time to time. I let mine drip, and spray the underside. But there isn't too mu h anyway, with a functioning pcv connected. |

I fitted mine after my son in law had a new pale coloured block paving driveway done! Otherwise, like Anam, I wouldn't have bothered ? 🤣 |
