MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Oil filter housing question

Hi all, quick question I have 2 puralator oil filter housings (cartridge type) the outlet to the block on the housing differs one is a round hole the other is mushroom shaped. They will both work as the hole on the 948 block is round does anyone know of any advantages between the two?
Also both are probably non spridget e.g. Morris so are shorter in length/distance from block does anyone know of any issues with access compared to a longer spridget one. (I can't get to the car to check if this is an issue)
Thanks in advance and before anyone suggests I don't want to covert to spin on as I have stock of cartridges to use up!!

From David Smith on the subject of a Classic Mini Oil Filter Head Housing Spin On Type INC. Gasket 12A2032 TAM2097 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174602508630

" ... thin flange and bolts to the block with very short bolts. Under high stress conditions and a lot of vibration they have been known to fracture across the flange. The genuine Midget spin-on type still uses long bolts and there is far more meat to the whole casting."

BTW you misspelt Purolator, I only discovered this when I done an Archive search and couldn't find anything when I knew they had been discussed recently.

These are the two types of filter head, as fitted to a variety of A-series engines.

Personally, I favour the top one, as it is much stronger. I have had a failure of the later, thin-flange type, although I think it may have been an aftermarket version, as it didn't have the reinforcing rib along the top.

They each use a different gasket, so you need to make sure you get the right one.

I almost lifted Dave's photos from (that same?) Archive thread but now Dave gets fully credit and I can't steal any of it.

Are you sure they're shorter than the original?

If you have a Frogeye, they used an angled extension between the block and the filter head.
Dave O'Neill 2

Dave, yes by longer I was referring to the frogeye extension. Attached photo of the two I have, probably should have uploaded this 1st.
