MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Oil pressure warning light
Hi does anyone have one these fitted to a 1275 / A series car ? When I got the car it had one fitted in the oil pressure take off on the block , with the oil pressure line taken off from it . I still have all the fittings but cannot seem to get it in place without it fouling the distributor or oil filter pipe outlet. A picture would be great if anyone has one , thanks |

Hi Mike I did have a T-piece fitted to mine, with both a pressure switch and a pipe to the gauge. I will see if I can find a photo when I get home. |

Mike,
Do you mean you have a light at the top of the dash - central ISTR ? If so it could well be a filter blocked warning light - it was only fitted to early 1275 - it had a sensor / valve thing within the oil filter head and the light only illuminated if the filter was clogged and bypassing oil. It was used with the replaceable inner filters that went into the outer can. I had one on my very early 1275. Moss show it as item 87 page 120 in the latest ? Catalogue ‘Head with filter condition sensor’ NLA. R. |

Not saying I agree with it but I have heard oil pressure gauges referred to as "worry gauges". Jan T |

Thanks Richard , it was fitted by the previous owner who raced the car and it’s a common thing in race cars to have dash warning light. I just thought I would try and reinstate it as the light and all the wiring is still in situ. Interestingly my dash has the hole on the top of the dash as though it did have a warning light there , it is a 66 car . |

Mike I fitted the switch to the end of mine and had the pipe coming out of the side. You can just about see the T-piece in the photo. The pipe exits rearwards and the switch is hidden beneath the oil cooler hose. ![]() |

Mike If you're trying to fit it up in one piece then yes it will foul the dist etc, but, if you remove the switch from the fitting and screw the fitting in on it's own, then fit the switch it should fit ok with either the switch on the side or the o.p. line on the side as in Dave's setup |

Thanks Dave and Will I hadn’t considered swapping round the fittings I will give that a go . Your picture reminded me Dave that when I got the car the distributor had no vacuum advance and oil cooler pipes rather than the pipe to filter housing so would have been more accessible too . |

I fitted mine as Mike F suggests in 2 stages. I also had to fiddle around with washers to get one of the right thickness to get the outlet to sit vertically Mike ![]() |

I had a T on the block for years for both a light and a gauge. Some years back I put a new tee on the back of the gauge and had a tidier installation. I think my 69 (built in 68?) originally had the light in the dash. |
