MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Pushrods question
When replacing an existing cam with a different profile cam, with new followers, is it advisable to fit new pushrods as well ? Also, are the pushrods for a 1098cc motor the same as for a 1275cc ?? Thanks. |

If they aren't bent, and the ends have been well lubed, and have no obvious pitting, then I resuse them. But they must be straight. 1098 amd 1275 pushrods, have different part numbers, so I guess they are different lengths. |

1275 pushrods are slightly longer, as the engine block is slightly taller. |

I've always re-used pushrods if straight but often there is a pip in the centre due to wear from the tappet which has a slight hole in the centre of the recess. I carefully grind off that pip so it doesn't cause any problems with new tappets. |

David you surprise me - I'm no engineer but I've not heard of the term 'a slight hole' before ;-) |

David, Quite right I think I must have left my engineers hat down the pub as it doesn't seem to be on my head or in my right or left hand and I can still see both of them at the same time. The tappets always seem to have a small (divet, hole, recess, drilling) in the middle of the socket the pushrod sits in which seems to wear the end of the pushrod creating the pip. Maybe for the time being I should call it an anti-nipple. |
David Billington |
Oh no - not the anti-nipple. I got one in a tyre the other day and you guessed tit went flat They are a real pest----------- cheers Willy |
