MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Question for Neil(K ) or anyone with the answer
Further to a conversation I had with Neil (K series) at Stoneleigh, would anyone have the correct paint code for Jaguar British Racing Green. Thanks in advance |

sorry I don't know but it could depend on which year and also if you mean Jaguar Racing Green if you're there probably a couple of guys on PistonHead that might know or where to find out |

Jaguar Racing Green has been remixed several times over the years in line with model introductions, and the traditional colour on say an XJ13 or D Type is much darker to the one on current cars, so you need to decide which colour you prefer. In total there are about 10 different formulations incuding straight greens, metallics and micas. Your best plan is to go to the Jaguar Museum at Browns Lane and look at the cars at first hand - the people there will be happy to help. http://www.jaguarheritage.org/startpage.aspx |

Rob - even within the colour, there is a bit of a range, that causes much consternation within the Jag folks, however, the code you are looking for is JA043, or, in the new version 7414. What might work out easier, and give you the exact colour you're looking for is to find a decent paint shop who will mix you up the shade that you are specifically wanting. I'm presuming that you want the version that is almost black? For Nigel's information, the year of Jag racing green was something like late 50s to mid 70s, but, I'm not sad enough to know the exact dates!!!! |

Sorry should have been a bit more specific, Rach you are spot on it is the almost black Racing Green we are after that was used on D Types, Neil did tell us the code and 7414 does ring a bell, perhaps Neil could confirm this if he pops along here? Thanks Fergus, good excuse to go to the Jag museum me thinks! |

Hi Rob, I've arrived! Good to meet you at Stoneleigh. When I was looking for a dark BRG code I contacted JD Classics (Essex?) who specialise in Jags. On their 50's D types they use ICI colour 2539. I had 4 litres made up away but later calculated I would need a bit more so I went to my local factors and had a very dark green mixed off the current Jag BRG colour charts (of which there were a number of shades). This latter paint was in fact a touch darker than the 2539. I used the latter paint for the initial coats before topping off with the 2539. Both look black in the dark. My advice would be to have a look at the paint charts of the modern dark Jag BRG colours and have a 1/4 litre mixed up to see if you like it. Neil |

rach, just a muddled up post from me I just meant there are different BRG and JRG depending on the year Rob, I also meant if you want the exact information there are a few Jag enthusiasts on PistonHeads that would probably know Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes forum - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&f=140&mid=39637 |

Thanks Neil, We were after a close paint code starting point, then a tweek here and there with the mixer to get it right. perhaps a picture or two in the future of the RWA before your daughter whisks it away from you! |

Another. These were taken in the booth under full lighting. In natural light the paint looks darker.

I painted my car JRG many years ago, it looks very nice when clean and shiny on a sunny day but I found it looked black on other occasions. Carl ![]() |
