MG Midget and Sprite Technical - radiator thermostat boss
Looked through the archives to no avail has anyone fit a boss in the radiator for a fan thermostat . If so how easy is it to solder one in, looking to fit one to tidy up the wiring for fan stat, dont like the one in the hose which i have now and with having the rad out thought it would be a good time to fit one.Done plenty of plumbing work in the past so fairly good at soldering. |

Ii know others have done it, and they are proud of it I dont know that id trust solder, id go for a tig weld, or a brass braze. Prop |

Mark, I've done it and soldered it in, no problems with it at all. |

Mark, As with all soldering preparation is very important, I would 'tin' both surfaces first - then heat together with more solder if required. Isolate the area you are working on with damp cloths to reduce heat spreading to the other joints - heat as locally as possible and only sufficient to melt the solder. Best of luck. R. |

Looks OK Mate, mines fitted on the side, and soft soldered. Cheers PS you might find that you need to tweak the temperature range (by changing the switch) to allow for the position of the sensor in the rad, I suspect mine may not be sensing what it should be sensing i.e. it turns on prematurely or too late etc. ![]() |

mine in same place, what temp have you fitted mine 100 deg c when in top hose switched to early so hoping it will be better in rad. |

Mark I have a 92.5 switch and I may go back to a 90 as the fan doesn't switch on until the temp gauge hits 95 somewhat too hot IMHO. I had an 85 but it came on almost all the time. Cheers Rod |
