MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rear axle position

can the rear axle be moved more central mine is 8mm out, the tyre on drivers side rubs slightly when cornering at speed, there is clearance there when parked but not as much as the passenger side.

Semi-eliptic? I moved mine a little by adding some packing to one side of the front spring eyes where they fit into the mounting plate. But I think the only proper way is to fit a Panhard rod.
GuyW

yes semi-elliptic, how much did you manage to move it with re arranging the washers
mark heyworth

8 or 10mm, as measured. But given that the whole rear set up is fairly 'floating' I've no idea how that translated into the on the road situation.
I subsequently fitted 165 width tyres and widened the rear wheel arches with the jack method.
GuyW

good im only looking for 8mm i have plenty on one side so if i can move it the 8mm it will be fine,i have 165s on they were fine but when i re shelled it i got this problem . What pressures are you running on your 165s .

165/65/13
24 at the back, but go up to 28 if carrying anything much in the boot or going on M-way

When they do catch, its not at the lip of the wheel arch, but further up inside the wheel well.
GuyW

Consider an Panhard rod, the biggest improvement on my sprite!
